Carrying Forward Dr. Maya Angelou’s Legacy of Giving: Empowering HBCU Students and Communities

The Dr. Maya Angelou Foundation has contributed nearly $700,000 to students aiming to attend historically black colleges and universities.

These funds have approximately 60 HBCUs across 20 states in Dr. Angelou’s name.

But that was far from the beginning of Dr. Angelou’s philanthropic legacy.

She embodied the spirit of unconditional giving:

  • She gave back through her stories

  • Her powerful oratory and writing

  • And of course, her monetary gifts

On top of hundreds of anonymous gifts, Dr. Angelou regularly supported St. Jude Children’s Hospital and many other charitable organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life for all human beings.

This Giving Tuesday and every day, we at the Dr. Maya Angelou Foundation celebrate Dr. Angelou’s legacy.
